If you are looking for a high-protein, high-calorie, high-energy recipe for your active lifestyle– these are the bars for you! The dark chocolate, raisins and maple syrup make sure they taste delicious, while the chia seeds, flax meal and hemp hearts provide a healthy sustained energy. I used Sunbutter since Ben is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, but you can sub almond butter, peanut butter or any other nut butter of your choice.
Sorry for the long title, but I had to fit all the deliciousness into it. And that didn’t even include the fresh rosemary and gooey mozzarella cheese. Remember these Rosemary Balsamic Caramelized Onions from a couple weeks ago? Well they are back and even tastier in this dish.
Local, non-GMO Colorado corn is here! I always get so excited this time of year. I love corn, but usually am too afraid to buy it in the off season since 88% of all corn that is grown is genetically modified- yikes! Luckily there are still a few local Colorado farmers growing corn the right way- including Olathe sweet corn. Sweet corn is a little whiter than normal corn and, like the name suggests, is much sweeter. Plus, you can’t beat the 2 ears for a buck price tag!
I cannot get enough of all the delicious stone fruit that is in season! I have been buying cherries for almost a month straight. It has had me daydreaming about having my own fruit trees and big vegetable gardens… Someday! For now I will obsess over my tiny patch in front of my apartment. I have harvested two whole green beans and a good amount of snow peas. My carrots, kale, mixed greens and broccoli are well on their way though!
The holidays are just around the corner; what will you be making? For those of you who are not sure, I’ve compiled a list of my top 30 favorite holiday recipes. There are some sweet, some savory, some for the early morning and some for late night. Enjoy!
There is something magical about potatoes. For some, they are an unhealthy, white starch- but for a broke twenty-something cook, they are a versatile, affordable delight. I love that you can use potatoes for so many different meals and in so many ways!
It really is a good thing that Valentine’s day is right around the corner. No not because I have some amazing Valentine date. I will actually be serving everybody their Valentine’s day dinners at Morimoto. The reason it is a good thing, is it gives me validation for eating so many sweets and blogging about them! =) I promise I have a whole bunch of savory dishes up my sleeve for the near future, but for now feed your inner fat kid with me.
Honolulu was the place to be this weekend. With the Pro Bowl coming into town, everything was buzzing. Friday night, I worked a buy out at Morimoto that was hosted by the NFL! Dave Mathews from DMB was even there! Even though I was in the kitchen all night, I felt very cool and important. In the spirit of football and the super bowl, I have a Super Bowl party recipe for you today.
I got rained on for the first time the other day riding my bike to the beach. Definitely the first of many I think. I guess there are prices to pay when you live in Paradise! I only have a bike, so I ride it everywhere, including to and from work. Luckily I work in a kitchen with a bunch of sweaty guys anyway so it is OK that I show up drenched in sweat… Riding my bike has been a great workout for me though! I forces me to workout, which is perfect for my type of personality… 🙂 I know if that is not your case, it can be hard to find time or motivation to workout, I had the same problem. If that is how you feel, this is a recipe for you!
