Can you believe that I have already been living in Hawaii for 6 months! You might be saying, “Yes actually I can because you have fallen off the face of the web only to periodically brag to us about your awesome time there.” Ok, ok you are right- BUT, I am moving back to home sweet home in a little over a month to go to Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in none other than Boulder, Colorado (the town I went to college in AND the town named the #1 Foodiest Town in America by Bon Appetite!). Although my time here is almost over, it is bittersweet. I miss home but I have learned so much about different cultures and cuisines while here and I am so excited to share everything I have learned with you once my adventure is over.
So I know it may appear that I have fallen off the earth. Just like last time, I am assuring you that I haven’t. I have been super busy though, working and playing. A few weeks ago my mom came to Hawaii to visit me, which meant a weekend filled with eating. I feel bad that I haven’t had the time to write my own posts for a while, but I just felt like my mom’s post about her trip encompassed everything so well that I had to link to it for all of you to enjoy.
Finally, to the cooking part of my cooking trip! We headed to a small town called Spongano the morning after our welcome dinner in Lecce. This is where the castle was located. Some people may call this a manor house, but call it what you want. There were like 20 bedrooms and bathrooms and an awesome pool and a garden filled with all sorts of fruit trees… I’d call that a castle. (Also, thanks to my mom, the host of the trip, for most of these photos! I was too preoccupied to take pictures most of the week. Sorry it has taken me so long to post the next part of my trip, apparently leaving school and work for two weeks causes chaos when you return. I’ll take it though. After taking the six-hour train ride, and sleeping for the entire thing, we ended up in Lecce. The Awaiting Table and Silvestro’s house are located in Lecce, but we got to stay at the castle instead since we had such a large group. We did a short tour of the town, then headed over for a welcome dinner at the school. I had never really thought about what I would want my kitchen to look like when I have my own, until I saw this place.
Finally, I have a free moment to tell you about my first trip to Italy! I kind of had an idea of what to expect from seeing photos and hearing stories, but nothing compares to actually experiencing it yourself. After having my flight to D.C. cancelled (thanks so much United) and spending an extra night in D.C., I finally made it to Rome a day later than my mom and the rest of the group.
