Summit County Restaurants: Food Hedz

I can’t believe that a month has passed and I have not shared this restaurant with you. At the beginning of July, my old roommate and I went out to dinner for my birthday to a great little restaurant in Frisco, CO called Food Hedz. If you weren’t on a mission to find this place, you would never even know it existed. It is a tiny restaurant in a shopping center with no name except “Cafe” out front. Cafe is a complete understatement. This place is seriously delicious, and much fancier than a cafe. It is a new restaurant, but I am sure will be a huge hit in no time. Great menu, great vibe and seriously nice staff. They really make you feel welcome at Food Hedz.

To start, they automatically serve you your choice of soup or salad and freshly baked bread. For our entrees, Jordan had the Herb Roast Breast of Free Range Chicken. This was bucatini pasta with marsala and mushroom, topped with oven roast vine tomato, stem artichoke and sweet basil. The flavors in this dish blended together very well. I really liked the thick bucatini pasta as well, it added more substance than many pastas do; it reminded me of more of a potato type addition.

I had the Pan Seared Filets of All Natural Pork. This was a trio of pork filets placed on green chile, cheddar roesti potatoes, each with a different sauce. The first was a mole rojo, the second a tomatillo sauce, and the third a yellow chile sauce. I loved having the three varieties all in one dish, definitely my style of menu. It was also served with a grilled vegetable tamale that was SO good! It was filled with potatoes, zucchini, corn and other tasty veggies.

For dessert, we split this Lemon Raspberry Clafouti. It was a French lemon and raspberry custard served with grilled angel food cake, caramelized peaches, fresh berries and a cherry sauce. It was so good, Jordan and I had to settle splitting the one dessert even thought we probably could have each eaten two!

If you are ever in Summit County, Colorado (Breckenridge, Frisco, Keystone, Dillon) I highly recommend that you stop through Frisco and have a meal at Food Hedz. You won’t be disappointed and you will be helping the little guys.
