Sometimes I find myself talking about food with Ben, only to hear the response, “I have never had that.” It makes my heart ache; how could somebody not have had ____! This time, it was a muffin. NEVER. HAD. A. MUFFIN?! I have a soft spot for a good blueberry muffin, so I had to make a Ben Friendly (soon to be trademarked) blueberry muffin.
Wow, has this sunshine been great! Every sunny summer day in the mountains makes up for an entire week of rain/snow. Everything has gotten so green, my plants are all finally growing and the farmer’s markets have started. Life is good. I have been enjoying the abundance of fresh product as well!
I don’t necessarily think that New Years means that you HAVE to immediately start dieting, but I feel like it is a good time to start out fresh. I like to refine my eating and exercising habits after the holiday bingeing is over. I recently did a cleanse to start out fresh before my move. One key component to a cleanse is flushing out your system and getting detoxifying nutrients, which makes this smoothie perfect for a cleanse.
Cooking fancy breakfasts for friends is always a ton of fun for me, but I don’t get to do it often. Usually, when a large group of friends end up spending the night at the same place, breakfast doesn’t get made for everybody for one of three reasons; 1- they wake up with the thought “Man I need to go home”, 2- nobody is in the mood to cook, or 3- you don’t have the ingredients or kitchen to use. If you are not a twenty-something year old you probably hardly ever wake up in a random friend’s house. This means planning a breakfast party if you ever want to have a big breakfast with friends, which for some reason just doesn’t happen as often in our busy lives. I am happy that I was able to cook these delicious crepes for a group, rather than just myself! These are also the perfect idea for a Father’s Day surprise!

I have finally made my first sugar-free, gluten-free dessert! Well, except for the vanilla frozen yogurt that I ate with it…I have to say it was amazing! This recipe shows how easy it is to cut out white sugar and gluten from your desserts without sacrificing any flavor. Of course, you can always make the dessert the old fashioned way if you want.
I was given two bins of blueberries this week by my mom, so of course dessert was on the menu. Conveniently, I saw multiple blueberry dessert recipe posts the day I came home, including one for blueberry cobbler. Cobbler is a great dessert for a small kitchen, because it doesn’t require the rolling of any dough. It is a great dessert for the winter because of the warm gooey fruit. Even in winter, adding vanilla ice cream is definitely recommended.
