If you ever feel like you are lost and spiraling into a path far from what you imagined your life being, take a minute to think about what your passion is, what you love, and what you miss doing that you used to do. The last few weeks have been beyond stressful for me, and finally I found my happy place again. I remembered why I became so obsessed with blogging, cooking and everything food. What was missing that was causing me to go so crazy? For me, it was the loud music in my kitchen and cooking my own recipes at home for myself and only myself. I find a peaceful place in my kitchen when I am alone and am not trying to please anyone but myself. I can take as long as I want on the dish, while listening to music, without a care in the world. I am so happy that my new job gives me nights off because now I know what has been missing.
Morimoto was back in town this past week and was intimidating as ever. On Friday night I was asking a co-worker to sneak me a piece of steak to eat. While I was asking, his eyes widened and he turned on his feet and went back to grilling. I turned around to see Morimoto in my station just standing there looking around and scoping it out; horrifying. On Saturday night, he made this amazing sushi cake type thing with ten pieces of every sushi filling you could imagine; if I can find a picture of it online I will share it with you.
Every so often I reminisce of my childhood eating habits and laugh. I used to be the pickiest eater. I only liked fruit, meat, peas, corn and potatoes. I would never try things and was always skeptical. In the last two years, I have grown to like almost every food and now am always eager to try new things. One of my newest obsessions is hummus. I had hummus for the first time last spring, made it for the first time this fall and am now addicted.
I realize it was a little backwards to post the dessert half of my spaghetti squash dinner first, but let’s be honest that is always the best part! (Also don’t forget to go over and enter my coconut oil giveaway here!) Here is how I used the other half of our seven pound spaghetti squash. I was kind of winging it with this recipe, which caused a bit of challenge naming it. This recipe is a great way to enter fall; you get to use your winter squash, but still get a summery feel with the Mediterranean flavors.
Since I have come home from Africa, I have had a serious case of the travel flu. I’m sure many of you had come down with this bug at some point in your life. You know that feeling when all you can think about is traveling and you would just love to get out and explore, just be anywhere but here. Well this time it has hit me hard. I have been planning my around the world trip for two and a half years from now. I have also been trying to squeeze some sort of trip in for the meantime.
I am back at it again with the goat cheese. I recently read that goat cheese has a large amount of tryptophan in it, the same stuff in turkey that makes everybody so sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner, so if you are having trouble sleeping you might just want to try one of these quesadillas before bed, or maybe the Smashed Potatoes with Goat Cheese & Parsley. Tryptophan is not only good for sleeping, but is an essential amino acid that has been shown to boost your mood and help you relax as well.
