Beer Battered Fish 'N' Chips

  • 2-4 C canola oil
  • 1 12 oz bottle of beer (I used White Rascal)
  • 2 C bread flour
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 t pepper
  • 1 1/2 lb Alaskan Cod filets boneless, skinless, cut into strips


  • Preheat the oil, in a medium pot, to 375F.
  • Combine the beer, flour, garlic, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Whisk until smooth.
  • Dredge the strips of fish in a small amount of flour.
  • Dip the strips in the batter, one at a time, and slip into the oil.
  • Fry a few strips at a time, but be sure to heat oil back to 375F before adding more.
  • Serve with potato wedges or chips.
