Blooming Onion w/ Herbed Béchamel Sauce

July 1, 2015 0 comments Article Main Course, Sauces, Vegetables

blooming-onion-closeThere has been a lot going on with our society lately. It is great to see our country moving in the right direction, with social equality (yay gay marriage!) and food quality. This past week, the FDA took partially hydrogenated oils OFF the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) list! All companies have three years to phase these harmful oils out of our food system. Also, big name companies like Subway, Kraft and General Mills have taken the pledge to remove artificial ingredients from their food. It seems that we have voted with our dollars and won!

Pesto & Goat Cheese Potatoes

July 8, 2014 0 comments Article Recipes, Side Dishes

Do you ever find yourself making the same thing over and over again for dinner? That’s how I was beginning to feel about oven roasted potatoes; so one day I decided that I was going to amp them up a bit.

I have recently gotten hooked on a new food addiction- goat cheese. I have always loved cheese, but never had tried goat cheese until a few weeks ago on a boat in Cape Town. Many thanks to the guys who bought the large assortment of cheeses for the party. Many people do not like goat cheese, probably because of the funky kick it has compared to other cheeses. For me, that is what makes me love it! I have given into the prices and decided to suck it up and buy good cheese. It really does make such a difference when you have fresh real cheese.

Throwback Thursday: Sweet & Spicy Salmon w/ Roasted Potatoes

April 21, 2011 13 comments Article Main Course, Recipes, Seafood, Side Dishes

This week’s throwback recipe is very memorable for me. I cook frequently for friends, especially my roommate. She is not a big seafood fan, but I have made her eat a few things this winter. This was one of the few salmon recipes that she liked, so I felt pretty accomplished! I think it also helped that I paired it with her favorite thing that I make- oven roasted potatoes. They are so easy, but so delicious!

So this week you get two throwback recipes. The first, a spicy salmon filet with a sweet orange glaze. The brown sugar and orange marmalade offset the spicy for a sensational taste. The second, seasoned oven roasted potatoes. These are easy to make and serve as a great side dish for tons of different meals. Definitely one to keep in mind.

Throwback Thursday: Sauteed Steak w/ Green Peppercorn Sauce

March 24, 2011 10 comments Article Main Course, Meat, Recipes, Sauces

This weeks Throwback recipe includes a very important staple in cooking- a basic brown sauce. A basic brown sauce is the base for many different gravies and other sauces. Once you are able to make a basic brown sauce, you will open all sorts of new doors for sauces. For me, this was a very exciting thing (like I tell you constantly, I am obsessed with sauces).

The green peppercorn sauce is great for steaks and simple enough to whip up on a weeknight. Looking back I am laughing at this meal… I ate every single peppercorn in my sauce and ended the dinner with my mouth on fire. Even with that, this was a delicious recipe!
