History of Spelt Flour

Spelt flour has a long and interesting history. It is an ancient grain that has been around for centuries, and it was once a popular staple food in many parts of the world. Spelt flour is made from the spelt grain, which is a type of wheat that is related to barley. It is a whole grain that is high in fiber and protein, and it contains a variety of nutrients that are beneficial for health.

Over the years, spelt flour has fallen out of favor as other types of wheat have become more popular. However, there has been a recent resurgence in interest in spelt flour, and it is now gaining popularity once again as a healthier alternative to other types of flour.

What are the Nutritional Benefits of Spelt?

Spelt is a whole grain that is high in fiber, which can help to regulate digestion, and it’s also a good source of protein, B vitamins and minerals like magnesium, zinc, and selenium. Spelt is especially beneficial for people with gluten sensitivities because it contains less gluten than wheat.

Some people with gluten sensitivities find that they can tolerate spelt bread better than wheat bread, because spelt is a low-gluten grain. However, if you have celiac disease or a serious gluten allergy, you should not eat spelt bread.

What Does Spelt Bread Taste Like?

Spelt bread tastes like regular wheat bread, but with a slightly nuttier flavor. It’s also denser and chewier than wheat bread.

You can’t go wrong with this delicious spelt bread recipe. This is one of the healthiest grains to eat and it’s so versatile! Whether you’re looking for a wholesome sandwich, a hearty breakfast casserole or something sweet-spelt has what you need. We hope that by now you’ve learned enough about this grain to be confident in cooking up your own batch of fresh homemade spelt bread. Let us know how it goes!
