Chewy Spelt Bread
Ingredients
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 1/4 cups spelt flour
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tbsp grape seed oil
- Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F. In a small bowl, combine yeast with 2/3 cup of warm water. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes to proof.
- In a separate large bowl, mix together flour and fine salt. In the bowl with the proofed yeast mixture, add maple syrup and oil, whisking until well combined. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and blend until a dough forms. Knead the dough until smooth, then cover it with a damp towel and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- Shape the dough into an oval on a baking sheet greased with oil, then sprinkle it with coarse salt. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 35 minutes, or until the bread is nicely golden brown.
