Quarter-Life Crisis & Dreaming of Summer {Giveaway Closed}
I am sure many of you have been wondering where I have been. No, I did not drown or get eaten by a tiger shark. No, I did not move away to a remote village with no internet. No, I did not abandon my blog. I know it is shocking that none of these things happened. Here is what has actually been up.
First, I quit my job at Morimoto. Yes, I am happy about my decision. I decided that I didn’t want to be in the chaos of a kitchen that was constantly losing employees and chefs. Instead, I am starting a new job with a health-conscious kitchen that I think will allow me to work more closely with the chef.
Second, I am going through a quarter-life crisis. I am sure you all know about these. The point in your life when you question every choice you have made. I have even been second guessing culinary school. After about a week of chaos and phonecalls home, I have decided that I am still going to go to culinary school, but to Escoffier in Boulder, CO instead of Johnson & Wales. This new program focuses more on farm to table and sustainable food, which is right up my alley. Oh, did I mention that it also hosts a trip to France?!
So, with all this chaos, I haven’t been cooking at home or posting recipes for you all. To show you that I still love you all, I am hosting a giveaway with our good friends Muir Glen Organics. I am sure you remember their delicious tomato giveaways last year? And those delicious grilled pizzas?
I’m not sure about you, but I am so ready for the summertime. I know I am in Hawaii, but I am still craving the summertime attitude and all the fresh summer veggies! Muir Glen knows how excited we all are for summer, so they want to give us a little taste of last summers harvest with their 2011 Reserve Kit giveaway!

The thing I love most about summer besides the abundance of fresh berries and vegetables in being outdoors…hiking, walking, etc.

My favorite thing about summer is relaxed dining. (Which is what you’re embarking on already!) I love throwing something on the grill “whenever,” tossing a salad with fresh-from-the-garden goodies, or drizzling a plateful of ripe tomato slices with extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt & freshly ground pepper.
I already like you on Facebook (www.facebook.com/okielicious) and have enjoyed commenting on your previous posts, so I’ll leave it at that and wish you well in your new adventures! Way to go, Jenny!
I love the smell of tomatoes in the garden. Even touching the leaves makes your hands smell like summer!

Interesting give away idea. I’m writing on a similar topic (quelling the QLC). My opinion, as well as collection of research on the topic, is at quellingtheQLC.com
I had the hardest time turning 25. I had a lot of self-talks to convince myself that it was still “only a teacher” (how sad is that?) and I wasn’t off doing some glamorous career. I had a tougher time turning 25 than I did 30 or 40! Good luck at your new job!
Favorite thing about summer: grilling and I would make some fantastic grilled pizza with these tomatoes.
My fave thing about summer is beautiful weather 🙂

My favorite thing about summer is getting my hands dirty in my garden! Living in Wisconsin, I am usually stir crazy around this time of year, so getting outside every day is a much welcomed change! Last year, I probably roasted about 10 cookie sheets worth of tomatoes with olive oil, salt and pepper and made a ton of tomato sauce. I froze most of it and believe me- having that sauce in the dead of January made winter a little more tolerable 🙂
Homemade salsa for sure
I love summer tomatoes, especially in fresh salsa!

I commented on the shrimp eggs benedict. Yum!
I would love to make a simple cucumber tomato salad.
You’r not the only one. I have been freaking out lately myself in my quarter life crisis…. But hopefully your new job and the school will help with that!
Wow – I am glad you had the courage to do that! Sounds like a huge decision, but I am happy that you are happy. Follow your heart! And sustainable food is a wonderful thing to focus on.
The thing I love best about summer is the abundance of fruit. I can never get enough of sweet fruit in a warm park 🙂
